Swami Atmanand Government English Medium Model College Ambikapur established in the year 2013 is the only Science College of Sarguja Division operating in the Scheduled Tribes area of Surguja District. Due to the absence of the college's own building at the time of establishment, it was initially being operated in the building of RGPG College Ambikapur. The college is affiliated to Sant Gahira Guru University Sarguja, Ambikapur Chhattisgarh. The College shifted to its own present campus in the year 2017. Since then, it has been making strides in terms of academic and infrastructural up-gradation which has enabled it to emerge as a fore-runner in Education in the rural and economical backward region in district headquarter Surguja, which is one of the districts of Chhattisgarh, surrounded by natural beauty and rich in the bio-diversity and dense forest.
The college offers Post-Graduation in Mathematics and Chemistry (CBCS) and Under Graduate programs B.Sc. in Information Technology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biology, and Mathematics.
Making a humble beginning with 115 students and 02 faculty members, today it has more than 500 students. A team of 05 dedicated and well qualified faculty members facilitate effectual teaching and contribute in shaping the Next-gen. The college has 05 Assistant Professors and 06 Guest Lecturers which include 04 Ph.D. Degree holder. More than 07 non-teaching members provide assistance in the better functioning of the college.
To impart holistic training, the college undertakes extension activities through one unit of N.S.S., various societies and departmental activities such as Community Hygiene and Sanitation, Cultural and Heritage, Environment, Gender Equity and Women Empowerment, Literary, Go Green and Eco club that aids the students to sensitize about major personal, social and health issues.
The departmental activities all provide the students a platform to hone their potential and capabilities. The college Anti-Ragging Committee, Help Desk, and Anti-Sexual Harassment committee function in tandem with various departments to facilitate students. They work tirelessly as facilitators to enable students to explore their creativity and potential learn the value of hard work and achieve excellence.
The college motto ‘‘विद्या परम् बलम्’’, with a literal translation of “knowledge is supreme power’’, is the guiding principle behind our endeavor to strive, excel and achieve distinction. The college aims at providing a conducive environment to augment holistic growth, and personal development of the students and to provide them a platform to blossom into responsible and confident young students who can live a life of dignity and make meaningful contribution to society.
